FREIGHT SHIPMENTS
Updated 11-10-2006

**Freight Shipping: Large motorcycles, electric bicycles, ATV's and mobility scooters such as the XB-500, XB-508, XB-350, XA-750, XT-300 & others are shipping by freight carriers strapped to pallets. We use R&L Carriers for 99% of all shipments going to 47 of the 48 lower states. Shipments to California will go by Yellow Freight or Central Freight (possibility we could use FedEx freight). We will choose the lowest cost carrier for each individual shipment to California. The carrier and tracking number can be found on the tracking number e-mail we send back to you after it ships.

Expect all freight shipments (except California) to go by R&L unless we contact you after the order is placed and tell you differently. Dealers are expected to visit the shippers website at http://www.gorlc.com/usa_map.asp to locate the nearest terminal for your customers if they are not paying $50 for delivery to their door. Customers should be aware that in many states the shipper offers only 1 or 2 terminals and these could be 100's of miles away from the delivery address. It is the dealers responsibility to communicate with their buyer about the terminal location.
X-Treme Scooters will ensure that each door delivery using R&L Carriers ONLY will include a lift gate.

**ALL Freight Shipments must include the customers phone number. If we do not receive the correct phone number of the customer, the shipment will not be shipped or delivered. The carrier will phone the customer to schedule delivery to the door.

**Freight palletized shipments going to New York City zip codes:
100-104
110-119
150-196
will incur a $100 service charge in addition to the $50 door delivery fee. Their is no exceptions for this fee as all freight carriers are charging $100 or more for these NYC zip codes.

**Freight palletized shipments going to Martha's Vineyard Island zip codes:
025-026
will incur a $100 service charge in addition to the $50 door delivery fee for transportation on the ferry to the island. Shipments picked up on the mainland at the terminal are free.

All shipments refused at any terminal will have the shipping costs billed back to the purchaser. Please be sure you or your customer is located near a terminal and has the capability of picking it up if they are not choosing the $50 optional door delivery service option.

Building an Electric Bicycle - The Cheapest Form of Hybrid

Many blogs and sites on the net talk about gasoline-electric hybrid model vehicles. However, there is a cheaper hybrid version that you can use: a human electric hybrid bicycle.

A well constructed hybrid electric bike functions in a very similar way to a simple electric hybrid car. The assembly is arranged to permit the electric motor to assist with acceleration, hill climbs, and with general movement. Just as gasoline is the primary power source in the simplest of hybrids, in the simplest forms of electric bicycle, the primary form of power is still supplied by the rider, and in both cases, batteries provide an assist which permits the vehicle to go longer and faster with less effort.

Peddling on the part of the rider can be used both to move the bicycle and to recharge the batteries. Regenerative braking is also an option, providing another source of power for the bike batteries and making for much easier riding in hilly riding areas. In hybrid bikes, one of the most complicated parts of the system is connecting the electric motor to the wheel, so that power can be used to push the bike, or stored to power the bike at a later time (by using the system in reverse). While there are many ways to do this, one of the easiest is via a simple roller which can be brought to push on the tire when needed.

As the components of an electric bike (with the exception of the batteries) can often be obtained from salvage or scrap, the price of an electric bike can vary widely. However, I recommend caution with parts related to braking. Personally, I would always buy those parts new as I always want to be sure my bike can stop!

As with any hybrid vehicle, the weight of the hybrid assembly should always be considered at all times in your conversion process. The last thing you want to do is create a bike that’s impossible to peddle without the batteries on.

Kits and advice on creating hybrid bicycles are available across the Web as well as many businesses that sell completed hybrid conversions.

Electric Bicycles and Electric Scooters

Using Electric Power for Transportation

Help the environment today by defying the rule of big oil companies and embrace the freedom of the outdoors. Owning an Electric Bike or an Electric Scooter can save you money, lower emissions, but above all can help you spend more time outdoors and is an exceptionally enjoyable riding experience.

The development of Electric Bikes is at a far more advanced stage than that of electric cars, with many now commercially available. The types of electric bike are wide ranging, from scooters and mopeds, to modified bicycles. Electric Bikes are a great way to cut down on traffic congestion, and should always be used on short journeys.

The Electric Bike is better described as a power assisted bicycle; using human and electric motor power. Models like the XB-500, XB-508, and XB-600 have working blinkers and headlights for the rider’s safety. The electric drive system is designed to be near-maintenance free and the rest is a quality bicycle with replaceable bicycle parts. These models have nearly all the same features as electric mopeds, yet they are about one-third of the cost.
The law regards the 'electric-assisted' (Washington) or 'motorized bicycle' (California) as a non-motorized vehicle and as a bicycle. Laws in other states and local ordinances are similar. Federal law PL107-319 in the U.S. defines the electric-assisted bicycle as a non-motorized vehicle (i.e. bicycle) and places it under the jurisdiction of the Consumer Protection Commission (rather than DOT).

The Electric Bike is an emerging new category of vehicle for those of us who enjoy pedaling. While uses are numerous by cyclists of all ages and proficiency the electric bike is above all about the riding experience. Electric Bikes not only diminish our reliance on petroleum and reduce pollution in our communities; they offer us more outdoor time and more interaction with our surroundings. It is our hope that E-bikes will transform people’s daily routines and add value to their lives by giving them a healthy alternative to mass transit and cars.
